CANON POINT: TBD
HEIGHT: 5'3"
WEIGHT: 120 lbs

PROFILE:

Yuna was born in Bevelle to a Yevonite father, Braska, and an unnamed Al Bhed mother. Sometime after giving birth Yuna's mother perished during an attack from Sin and Braska resolved to become a summoner to defeat the monster. Leaving behind a seven-year-old Yuna in Bevelle, Braska and his two guardians, Auron and Jecht, travel to Zanarkand, obtain the Final Aeon from Yunalesca, and defeat Sin with the Final Summoning, but Braska and Jecht sacrifice their lives in doing so.

Earlier in their travels, Braska requested Auron to bring Yuna to Besaid Island following Sin's defeat, to ensure she'd live a peaceful life. But Auron, who was mortally wounded by Yunalesca, only made it as far as to the outskirts of Bevelle before passing on this request to Kimahri Ronso. When Yuna was on the bridge in Bevelle, she heard her father had defeated Sin. She met Kimahri, who took Yuna to Besaid, placed her in the care of the temple, and stayed with her at her request. In Besaid, Yuna grew up with Wakka, Lulu, and Chappu.

Ten years later, Braska's Calm has ended and a seventeen-year-old Yuna decides to follow in his footsteps and become a summoner, despite her friends' objections.

PERSONALITY:
Yuna is friendly and kind, though still rather reserved and serious most of the time. She is driven almost entirely by determination and faith, as well as striving to be polite and respectful to everyone she meets; she is quick to bow to people out of respect and willing to talk to and spend time with those who need company. She once believed strongly in her religion and that what she is doing is the right decision for the entire world -- for just ten years of peace, Yuna was willing to give up her life, and though the idea of journeying to your death would tear down most people, Yuna remained strong throughout her trip. Even when presented with the opportunity to forget about her pilgrimage and live in peace with the people she loves, she chose to remain on her path and bring happiness to everyone in Spira. Yuna is generally well-liked due to her generous nature, and even those who don't like her are met with her kindness and understanding.

That isn't to say she's a doormat, however; she doesn't let people walk all over her, but she is never rude to them in return. Her rebuttals are firm but proper, and she doesn't lose courage when faced with some kind of bully. Yuna also isn't known for being completely straight-laced at all times either -- she is shown several times to be fun-loving or even goofy (such as when she starts a running race with the rest of the party, and takes off before the countdown is finished). Yuna shouldn't be described as "demure", as she is quite bold, but nicely so.

One of the first glimpses into Yuna's strength as a person is when she explains that when she's sad, she has learned to smile instead, essentially masking any negative feelings she may have. Because of this, behind Yuna's sweet smile, there is a deep feeling of sadness that she lets no one truly see at first. She doesn't let herself depend on anyone, instead wanting to be the person that others depend upon.

Yuna has a tendency to get a bit over-emotional and sensitive, and sometimes tends to let her emotions guide her before her head does. Her sensitive nature causes her to not know how to react to certain situations, instead just becoming flustered. This is especially easy to see when a marriage is proposed to her, and Yuna's reaction is to then pace around the room and lose the ability to look at the person who asked her.

But this same sensitivity also lends to Yuna being caring and sympathetic. The first time she preforms the Sending - a ritual which guides the souls of the deceased for the Farplane - she cries, mourning the lost loved ones of strangers. She also gets rather emotionally involved in the fiasco of Operation Mi'ihen, during which many people lost their lives at a feeble attempt to stop Sin. Yuna readily tries to put herself in the front lines of the operation, so that no one else would have to die. In both of these situations Summoners seem to be generally told to keep their heads up and remain strong and possibly stoic, so that those surviving have someone they can lean and depend on, but Yuna can't seem to bring herself to be anything other than altruistic. Still, Yuna continues on her journey after she has seen so many die, trying to keep a smile on her face through everything. She reasons that someone in Spira needs to be the pillar of strength for the people, to allow them to smile as well, and that it might as well be her.

She seems to be generally interested in other people, and not just out of politeness. Yuna will engage other people quite readily, though not necessarily approach them herself, most likely deeming it improper. Once engaged, though, Yuna will glue herself to her seat while listening to any story a person may want to tell her, and it is a near-guarantee that she will find it fascinating. On that vein, Yuna is the farthest thing from judgmental; in fact, upon meeting a new person, she always has a deep respect for them. Even if shown that a person may not necessarily deserve respect, such as in the case of a villainous individual, Yuna will still hold them in high regards and possibly attempt to help them if she figures she can.

Overall, she is very strong emotionally. Even as her own faith is utterly shattered, Yuna continues on about her pilgrimage in order to provide hope for the people of her world. Though she eventually shows that she is scared, her motivation is solely that maybe she can end suffering. Yuna does not at all think of herself or what she wants, always instead putting the needs and happiness of others first. She is, in a nutshell, a person for the people.
